Tip for the week: Brass Players; If you are not comfortable cleaning the whole trumpet, snake out the leadpipe and main tuning slide with soap and water and a cleaning snake about once a week. Grease and re-insert the slide.  Drop a few drops of valve oil down the lead pipe.  Put your mouthpiece on and BLOW!  This will help keep "crud" from adhearing to the bore and causing expensive problems down the road.
